When we started SurfaceKit, the product simply converted Shopify product catalogs into markdown and structured formats for easy AI consumption. Since then, we’ve closely monitored customer data for validation. The initial approach simply was not enough. Yesterday, we rolled out an enrichment agent and research agent.
The research agent will learn everything about a product from image analysis, web search, and reasoning to build a comprehensive dossier to augment enrichment. The enrichment agent reviews the dossier and builds an AI-tailored product and faq profile and refreshes when appropriate. The PDP enrichment ensures that AI crawlers and chat have the best information to index and confidently recommend products.
The last and perhaps most important aspect is the seamless merchant experience. The product continues to be a one-click set-it-and-forget-it experience. Each product update is guided by this one-click approach. Both the research and enrichment agents are abstracted as is the data transformation. With Shopify admins juggling multiple apps and interfaces we want ours to be faded into the background with confidence.
In the end , the merchant can review the product periodically or not at all. What really matters is building AI presence to drive sales via AI search channels. We’ve gotten some good merchant feedback on what’s missing in this respect. I’m excited to incorporate that feedback into improving analytics and attribution tracking going forward.
